The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) has announced the Eid Al-Fitr 2025 holiday dates for government sector employees across the United Arab Emirates (UAE), issuing a circular on March 17, 2025. 

According to the circular, the Eid Al-Fitr 2025 break will officially start on Sunday, March 30, 2025, and end on Tuesday, April 1, 2025. Federal employees will resume work on Wednesday, April 2, 2025. Similar Eid 2025 holidays will apply to private sector employees.  

The authority stated, “The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) issued a special circular today regarding the Eid Al-Fitr holiday for the federal government this year. According to the announcement, the holiday will commence from 1st to 3rd Shawwal 1446 AH, corresponding to the respective Gregorian calendar dates, with official working hours resuming on 4th Shawwal.”  

The moon sighting to determine the end of Ramadan 2025 is expected to take place on March 29, 2025, according to the moon sighting committee. Since Islamic months last either 29 or 30 days, the holiday schedule will depend on when the crescent moon is spotted.  

If the moon is sighted on March 29, Eid will begin the next day, Sunday, March 30, giving most employees a four-day break from Saturday, March 29 (weekend) to Tuesday, April 1. However, if the moon is not sighted and Ramadan lasts 30 days, Eid will start on Monday, March 31, extending the break to a five-day weekend from Saturday, March 29 to Wednesday, April 2.  

FAHR explained, “If the holy month of Ramadan completes 30 days, then 30th Ramadan will also be considered an official holiday, extending the Eid break accordingly.” The circular, addressed to all ministries and federal entities, is based on Cabinet Resolution No. (27) of 2024, which outlines official public holidays in the UAE.  

The authority also extended warm wishes to the government and people of the UAE, as well as to residents and the Arab and Islamic nations, hoping for continued health and prosperity for everyone.

In Sharjah, federal employees may receive an even longer Eid break, as the region follows a four-day workweek. They will get additional holidays from Friday, March 28, to Tuesday, April 1. Additionally, if Eid begins on Monday, March 31, they will enjoy a six-day holiday from Friday, March 28, to Wednesday, April 2.  

The exact Eid Al-Fitr holiday dates in the UAE will depend on the official moon sighting. In the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (MHRSD) has announced a four-day Eid 2025 break for all private and non-profit organisations, and the Saudi public entities may follow suit.
