ASRY Company appoints Dr. Ahmed AlAbri as new CEO
The Arab Shipbuilding and Repair Yard Company (ASRY) has announced the appointment of Dr. Ahmed AlAbri as the new Chief Executive Officer, effective August 2024.
Announcing his new role on LinkedIn, Dr. AlAbri posted, “I am thrilled to announce that I’m starting a new position as the CEO of ASRY, the pioneer, leader, and pacesetter for the maritime industry in the Gulf. Established in 1977, the company continues to excel and excite. The narrative now is straightforward: solidify our status of excellence, unleash the true potential of this great yard, and move forward to put our mark and footprint on the international scene. To all my colleagues at ASRY, it’s an honor to be among you all, and I certainly look forward to a collective drive of unity and passion towards the goal of reaching new heights.”
In his new role, Dr. AlAbri brings around three decades of leadership experience in the shipping sector. He most recently served as CEO of ASYAD Ports for over six years, in addition to his role as Chairman of the board of Khazaen Dry Port Company, ASYAD Terminals, and Asyad Container Terminals. In his previous roles, he worked with Ports Management & Operation Company as the Acting CEO, Oman Drydock Company as the Deputy CEO, and AJIG as the Director of Projects. He also served as the Chief Naval Architect for the Royal Navy of Oman for over 15 years.

On the academic front, Dr. AlAbri holds a Doctorate (PhD) in Operational and Environmental Management of Ports and Shipyards from the University of Portsmouth, an MSc in Maritime Engineering Sciences, and a Bachelor of Engineering in Naval Architecture from the University of Southampton.
