SEC names AlGhamdi as Acting CEO after Al-Gnoon exits

Saudi Electricity Company has announced the resignation of its current Chief Executive Officer, Eng. Khalid bin Hamad Al-Gnoon, and the appointment of Eng. Khalid bin Salim Al-Ghamdi as the Acting CEO, effective September 25, 2024.

The company stated in a filing on the Saudi exchange: “...the Board of Directors’ acceptance of the resignation of the company’s CEO, Eng. Khalid bin Hamad Al-Gnoon, effective on September 25, 2024, and the appointment of Eng. Khalid bin Salim Al-Ghamdi as Acting CEO, effective on September 25, 2024.”

The reason for CEO Al-Gnoon’s resignation is not yet known. He has served the company since 2021, following the resignation of former CEO Fahad Al-Sudairi due to personal reasons. Al-Gnoon held key positions during his three decades of service to the company.

Taking over from CEO Al-Gnoon, Al-Ghamdi brings over two decades of strong and diverse leadership experience to his new role. He has been serving the leading electric energy company as the Executive Vice President of Technical Services and Senior Vice President of Digital and Technology since May 2022. Prior to joining SEC, he worked with Aramco for over 15 years, including roles as Head of Digital Strategy and Investments and Growth Manager. He also served with Honeywell UK and STC. Additionally, he serves on the boards of Solutions Valley and Alfaisal University.

On the academic front, Al-Ghamdi holds a master’s degree in Information Systems (MIS) from the University of Phoenix, a bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering from King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals, and has completed a leadership development programme at Harvard Business School.
