Astra Tech appoints Sameer Al Maskari as CHRO
Astra Tech, a leading IT company, has appointed Sameer Al Maskari as Chief Human Resources Officer, effective immediately.
Sameer shared the news on LinkedIn: “I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Chief Human Resources Officer at Astra Tech!”
Sameer brings over two decades of leadership experience in the banking sector. In his new role, he will oversee the HR function, including talent acquisition, employee engagement, and learning and development. He will also focus on aligning people, culture, and business strategies to drive the organisation's sustainable success.
Before this appointment, Sameer served as Head of Human Resources at Wio Bank. Prior to that, he spent over four years as Head of HR at the Abu Dhabi Investment Office. He began his career with Emirates NBD in 2006, holding key positions such as Recruitment Manager, Head of Nationalisation, and HR Business Partner.
On the academic front, Sameer holds a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Al Ghurair University and has earned several key certifications in coaching, strategic HR, organisational relationships, strategic recruitment and selection, agile leadership, and corporate entrepreneurship. He is also a qualified CIPD HR professional, accredited by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.
Sameer will work closely with the newly appointed Managing Director and Board Member, Tariq Bin Hendi, to ensure alignment between people and business strategies. Tariq joined Astra Tech following the departure of Abdallah Abu-Sheikh, the company’s founder and former Chief Executive Officer.

In July 2024, Mayada Baghdady joined Astra Tech as HR Manager of People and Culture, bringing over 15 years of experience. She oversees a full spectrum of HR functions, including business partnering, talent acquisition, talent development, HR operations, HR system implementation, employee engagement, employee grievances, policies and procedures, organisational effectiveness, specialised HR projects, and HR transformation.
Prior to this, Mayada held key HR roles at Botim, Al Wathba National Insurance Company, Al Ain Finance, and Magrabi Hospitals & Centers, including Head of People & Administration and Head of HR, People & Culture.
