Leadership rejig at Qatar General Insurance Re

Qatar General Insurance and Reinsurance Company has announced the appointment of Aimen Saba Azara as the Group Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately.

Aimen succeeds Saeed Abu Gharbia, who stepped down from the position in October 2024. After Saeed’s exit, the group named Jassim Mohammed Yousef Al Kuwari as Acting CEO until Aimen’s appointment.

Announcing the appointment of the new CEO, Aimen, the company posted, “In addition to the company’s disclosure dated October 29, 2024, regarding the resignation of the Group CEO, Mr. Aimen Saba Azara has been appointed as Group CEO, effective January 6, 2025.”

In his new role, Aimen has nearly 25 years of industry leadership experience. He most recently served at Alliance Insurance as the CEO and Executive Board Member for over 13 years. Announcing his exit from the company in November 2024, he posted, “After 13 fulfilling years as the CEO of Alliance Insurance, I have decided to step down. This journey has been remarkable, and I am incredibly thankful for the relationships we have fostered and the milestones we have accomplished together. Each of you has played a vital role in making this company what it is today, and I carry those memories with me as I transition.”

He also confirmed the appointment of Rami El Mughrabi as the Acting CEO of Alliance Insurance to succeed his roles and responsibilities, saying, “I am excited to announce that Mr. Rami El Mughrabi, who currently serves as our Assistant CEO and CFO, will be Acting CEO, effective November 1, 2024. Rami has been an essential part of our leadership team, demonstrating exceptional financial stewardship and strategic planning skills throughout his tenure with Alliance. His deep understanding of our operations and his visionary leadership position him perfectly to guide the company during this transition period. I will remain Rami's advisor until the end of 2024 to ensure a smooth handover. During this time, I will be available to provide support and share insights that may assist him in his new role.”

Before Alliance Insurance, Aimen worked with Al Sagr National Insurance Company as the General Manager for over seven years and ALICO/AIG as the Director of Agencies for over four years. He also served as a member on the board of Jordan Emirates Insurance and on the board of Gulf Insurance & Reinsurance.
