Citi elevates Urooj Tahir to SVP CHRO UAE Onshore & MEA Nationalisation Head
Citi, a leading financial services firm, has promoted Urooj Tahir to Senior Vice President - Chief Human Resources Officer for Onshore & Banking in the United Arab Emirates, and Head of Nationalisation for the Middle East and Africa region.
Announcing her new role, Urooj posted on LinkedIn, “I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as SVP - CHRO UAE Onshore & Banking and MEA Head of Nationalisation at Citi!”
In her new role, Urooj brings approximately 15 years of HR expertise across the Middle East's financial sector. She joined Citi in 2021 as the Vice President of Nationalisation and Graduate Recruitment for the MEA region and was later promoted to Vice President of Talent Acquisition (TA) for Banking, International, Client and Wealth for the UK and EMEA, along with Nationalisation responsibilities. Prior to joining Citi, Urooj held key HR roles at HSBC, including Regional TA and Graduate Programme Lead and Nationalisation, as well as Regional Resourcing Manager for the MENA region. She also worked with Commercial Bank International as Recruitment Officer and Khushhali Bank as Talent Specialist at the start of her career.

On the academic front, Urooj holds a BBA degree in Human Resources from Bahria University and a Master’s degree in HRM from SZABIST. She is also a Senior Certified Professional from SHRM. Her core competencies include analytical thinking, interpersonal skills, human resources, performance management, recruitment, HR policies, employee relations, team management, Emiratisation and nationalisation, organisational development, HRIS, HR consulting, and workforce planning.
