Norton Rose Fulbright appoints Marshall Bromwich, Daniel Lin to key APAC roles

Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright is doubling down on its Asia-Pacific growth ambitions with two significant leadership appointments, naming Marshall Bromwich as Australia country head and bringing energy and infrastructure specialist Daniel Lin into the partnership across Sydney and Tokyo, as reported by the firm.

The appointments come at a pivotal moment for the firm following the integration of its Australia and EMEA operations into a unified Europe, Middle East and Asia Pacific (EMEAPAC) practice last year. As cross-border transactions, energy transition projects and outbound investments continue to reshape the legal landscape in the region, the firm appears focused on building a leadership team equipped to navigate increasingly complex international mandates.

Bromwich will officially take over as Australia country head on 1 June 2026, succeeding Alison Deitz, who has led the Australian business since 2020 through two successive three-year terms. During her tenure, the firm recorded substantial revenue and profit growth while also overseeing the integration of the Australia and EMEA businesses.

The leadership transition signals continuity rather than disruption. Bromwich already plays a central role within the firm, currently serving as corporate team leader in Australia, head of consumer markets and lead for the APAC corporate strategic initiative. He will continue to oversee the corporate practice while stepping into the country head role, reflecting Norton Rose Fulbright’s increasingly integrated regional leadership structure.

Peter Scott, managing partner for EMEAPAC, said Bromwich’s appointment aligns closely with the firm’s regional strategy and client-focused expansion plans.

“Marshall brings a wealth of experience from his time leading our Australian corporate and consumer markets practices and his appointment strongly supports our APAC strategy,” Scott said. “We are well positioned to deliver seamless, cross-border support across the region.”

Bromwich said the integration of the Australia and EMEA businesses had already begun creating tangible benefits for clients and staff.

“I am excited to be taking on the role of Australia country head at this important time of growth for the firm,” he said. “The integration of our Australia and EMEA businesses has created a strong platform for future success.”

At the same time, the firm has strengthened its regional energy and infrastructure offering with the appointment of Daniel Lin, an Asia Pacific-focused partner joining from Sidley Austin, where he spent more than eight years as a partner in the Tokyo office and most recently served as co-managing partner.

Lin’s arrival reflects the growing importance of energy transition, infrastructure financing and Japan-linked investment flows across Asia-Pacific markets. Working across Sydney and Tokyo, he will advise on energy, infrastructure and corporate transactions spanning Japan, Southeast Asia, Europe and the Americas.

Scott described Lin’s cross-border expertise as a major addition to the firm’s regional offering.

“His ability to work seamlessly across Sydney and Tokyo, coupled with his background advising on outbound and inbound Japan-related investments, strengthens our existing capability and enhances the cross-border support we can offer to clients,” Scott said.

Lin said the firm’s international platform and sector depth were key reasons behind his move.

“Norton Rose Fulbright boasts an enviable global energy, infrastructure and corporate capability that I am excited to be joining,” he said. “The firm’s full-service global offering across all energy and infrastructure matters was a major drawcard.”

The appointments also continue a broader expansion push for Norton Rose Fulbright in Australia. Over the past year, the firm has added several partners across banking and finance, public M&A, equity capital markets, intellectual property, government and risk advisory practices, while also promoting a new generation of partners across Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra.

Expertise and leadership profile

Marshall Bromwich is recognised as one of Australia’s leading transactional franchising lawyers, advising on franchise acquisitions, capital raisings, IPOs, joint ventures and private equity deals, alongside market-leading expertise in warranty and indemnity insurance. Known for his commercial approach and strategic advisory work, he has worked closely with senior executives and boards across Australian and global businesses.

On the other hand, Daniel Lin brings extensive experience in Asia-Pacific energy and infrastructure transactions, advising on the development, financing and acquisition of renewable energy, conventional power and digital infrastructure assets. He is particularly known for handling Japan-related outbound and inbound investments and is expected to strengthen Norton Rose Fulbright’s cross-border capabilities across Sydney, Tokyo and the wider APAC region.

Education background

Bromwich holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from the University of Melbourne, completed in 2003. He also earned a Bachelor of Arts from the same institution in 2003.

And for Lim, before joining Norton Rose Fulbright, he spent more than eight years with Sidley Austin in Tokyo, where he served as partner and later co-managing partner of the office.

Over the course of his career, he has advised clients on transactions spanning Japan, Southeast Asia, Europe and the Americas, building a strong reputation in the international energy and infrastructure sector.
