Dhofar Municipality launches wage support scheme for seasonal Omani employment

Dhofar Municipality has launched a wage-support initiative aimed at encouraging businesses and employers to hire Omanis for temporary jobs during the governorate’s khareef, sarb and winter seasons.

The programme, introduced in coordination with the Directorate General of Labour in Dhofar, will provide wage support to eligible establishments, businesses and employers that recruit Omani nationals for seasonal positions.

The initiative is designed to expand temporary employment opportunities for Omanis while supporting workforce participation in tourism and other economic activities that experience increased demand during Dhofar’s seasonal periods.

The scheme covers five categories of employers. These include Omani establishments licensed by the municipality that recruit nationals for temporary roles, as well as local companies awarded government contracts or tenders connected to seasonal activities and requiring temporary staff.

Omani organisers of festivals and seasonal events that hire temporary workers are also eligible to participate.

The programme further covers Omani owners of hotels and residential buildings for tourists who employ nationals temporarily in reception roles.

Omanis organising voluntary seasonal activities and hiring national workers on a temporary basis are also included among the eligible categories.

By extending the initiative beyond the khareef season to include the sarb and winter periods, the municipality aims to create more opportunities for Omanis to take up temporary work throughout the year as seasonal economic activity rises.

The initiative comes as Oman continues to focus on increasing employment opportunities for nationals and strengthening the participation of Omani talent across sectors linked to tourism and local economic activity.

Dhofar Municipality has invited eligible establishments and employers interested in accessing the wage support to register through its electronic portal.
