Oman grants two-hour paid work reduction for employees with disabilities, caregivers

Oman’s Ministry of Labour has reminded employers and employees that eligible persons with disabilities and certain caregivers are entitled to a two-hour reduction in daily working hours while receiving their full salary or wage.

The provision is set out under Article 50 of Oman’s Law on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, issued through Royal Decree No. 92/2025. The ministry said the awareness campaign is intended to improve understanding and use of the entitlement, stressing that it is an existing legal right rather than a new regulation.

The reduced working hours apply to employees and workers with moderate or severe disabilities. The benefit also extends to non-disabled employees who are responsible for caring for a parent, child or spouse with a moderate or severe disability.

Employees with disabilities seeking the benefit must provide a disability card issued by the Ministry of Social Development confirming their disability classification.

Caregivers, meanwhile, must provide documentation establishing their relationship with the person with a disability, evidence confirming the person’s disability classification and official documentation showing that they have assumed or been entrusted with caregiving responsibilities.

The Ministry of Labour issued the reminder as part of its Purple Saturday awareness campaign, conducted in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Development. The campaign aims to encourage eligible workers and caregivers to understand and exercise the rights provided under Oman’s disability legislation.

The ministry said the provision supports workplace inclusion while protecting employees’ financial rights and providing additional support to caregivers.

The measure forms part of Oman’s broader legal framework for supporting persons with disabilities and promoting more inclusive workplaces, while ensuring eligible employees do not have to sacrifice their full pay to access the reduced working hours.
