Oman Labour Ministry reinforces vocational education to meet future workforce demands

The Ministry of Labour Oman has highlighted major advancements in the country’s vocational education and training sector, underscoring its growing role in supporting economic diversification and preparing a future-ready national workforce.

H.E. Saeed bin Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Balushi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labour for Human Resources Development, said the vocational education sector has undergone “significant qualitative advancements” in both its programmes and operational mechanisms in recent years, in response to economic transformations and evolving labour market demands.

Speaking as part of the ministry’s focus on vocational education and training, Al Balushi said these developments have strengthened the sector’s position as a key enabler of productivity, sustainable development, and workforce readiness across vital industries in Oman.

“Vocational education is a fundamental pillar for building national competencies and supporting sustainable development,” he said, adding that improving alignment between educational outcomes and labour market needs remains a strategic priority for the ministry.

The ministry noted that stronger collaboration with public and private sector entities, alongside strategic partnerships, has expanded opportunities for specialised training and professional qualification. These partnerships, officials said, have also contributed to improving the quality of vocational education outcomes while maximising long-term economic impact.

The remarks come as Oman marks the graduation of the 20th batch of vocational education students across 26 vocational colleges under the theme “Competencies That Shape the Future.”

Al Balushi congratulated graduates on their achievement and encouraged them to continue developing their capabilities to contribute effectively to the country’s development journey and economic ambitions.
