Sohar Power Company SAOG has appointed Ameer Abdul Hussain as its chief executive officer, bringing an energy-sector executive with experience in power planning, renewable energy and regulatory advisory to lead the Oman-based utility.

The appointment was approved by the company’s board of directors, according to a disclosure to the Muscat Stock Exchange last week.

Abdul Hussain brings around 15 years of experience across the energy sector in Oman and the wider Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region. His expertise spans independent power producer (IPP) projects, power purchase agreements (PPAs), power-system planning, renewable energy integration and energy-sector regulation.

Abdul Hussain shared the appointment on LinkedIn, saying, “I am honoured to share that I have been appointed Chief Executive Officer of Sohar Power Company SAOG.

“I would like to sincerely thank the Board of Directors and our shareholders for the trust and confidence they have placed in me. I look forward to working alongside our team and partners to continue delivering safe, reliable power to Oman.

“This milestone would not have been possible without the people who have supported me along the way. My heartfelt thanks go to my former colleagues and mentors, whose guidance and generosity have shaped my career, and to my family and friends for their constant encouragement.

“I am excited to return to Oman's power sector in this role and to contribute to its continued growth.”

Before joining Sohar Power, Abdul Hussain worked at consulting firm Guidehouse, where he served as managing consultant until August 2026. His work involved energy strategy, regulatory frameworks, utility transformation and investment governance across the UAE and the wider Middle East.

His advisory experience included developing energy transition strategies, supporting regulatory initiatives and evaluating utility investment programmes. He also contributed to projects involving demand-side management, demand-response frameworks and transmission system operations.

Abdul Hussain spent nearly a decade at Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP), now known as Nama Power and Water Procurement, where he held planning and analytical roles.

During his tenure, he worked on long-term power capacity planning, energy demand forecasting, renewable energy resource assessments and tariff analysis. He also contributed to Oman’s renewable energy strategy roadmap and studies examining the integration of renewable generation into the power system.

His earlier responsibilities included managing solar monitoring sites to collect irradiation data for utility-scale solar project development, as well as supporting energy modelling and economic assessments.

Abdul Hussain holds a Master of Science in Global Energy Management from the University of Strathclyde in Scotland, where he graduated with distinction. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from Girne American University in Cyprus, graduating with honours.
