Sterlite Electric appoints Frederic Trefois as group CEO

Sterlite Electric names Frederic Trefois as group CEO to steer next growth phase amid rising global demand for grid modernisation.
Sterlite Electric has appointed Frederic Andre M Trefois as its Group Chief Executive Officer, the company said on Tuesday, signalling a leadership shift as it prepares for its next phase of growth in power transmission and infrastructure.
Trefois, who previously served as a non-executive independent director on the company’s board, will now take on an executive leadership role overseeing global operations and strategy.
The appointment comes at a time when energy systems worldwide are undergoing rapid transformation, driven by electrification, renewable integration, and the need for resilient grid infrastructure.
“Frederic brings global perspective, disciplined execution, and deep sector insight at a time when grids worldwide must evolve to meet complexity and scale,” said Pratik Agarwal, managing director of Sterlite Electric. “His leadership will help Sterlite Electric grow while reinforcing our role in enabling reliable, affordable, and sustainable power.”
Trefois said the company’s ambitions align with broader shifts in the global energy landscape. “As energy systems become more digital and interconnected, grids must become more intelligent and resilient,” he said. “We will build solutions that help customers optimise asset performance, improve reliability, and make smarter capital investment decisions, while keeping sustainability embedded in how we design and deliver infrastructure.”
Before joining Sterlite Electric, Trefois held leadership roles at Sécheron Hasler Group and SNC-Lavalin Inc, gaining experience across engineering, infrastructure, and power systems. An engineer by training, he holds degrees in civil engineering.
Sterlite Electric, formerly known as Sterlite Power Transmission, manufactures capital goods and provides system integration solutions for the power transmission and distribution sector. Its portfolio spans overhead conductors, power cables, and optical ground wire, alongside master system integration services.
The company has expanded its international footprint in recent years, supplying products and services to more than 70 countries across North America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia between April 2022 and March 2025.
It operates four manufacturing facilities in India and is currently setting up a new power cable plant in Vadodara, Gujarat, as part of its capacity expansion strategy.
Trefois’ appointment reflects a broader industry trend of strengthening leadership benches as utilities and infrastructure players scale up to meet rising demand for grid upgrades and energy transition investments.
As Sterlite Electric looks to deepen its global presence, the new CEO’s mandate will likely centre on execution, expansion, and navigating the increasingly complex demands of the power transmission ecosystem.
