GFH Bank-backed Tunis Bay has appointed Alia Al Shamlan as CEO to drive development and expand strategic partnerships.

Al Shamlan, a Bahraini national with more than 15 years of experience in asset management, investments and real estate transactions, will lead the project's next phase of development. Her priorities include securing a flagship luxury hospitality brand and advancing the marina and seafront residential components.

The appointment is part of Tunis Bay's efforts to strengthen its leadership capabilities and develop the project as an integrated destination for residential, commercial, hospitality and leisure activities.

Al Shamlan previously served as an investment executive director and held several roles in asset management and investments within GFH. She holds a bachelor's degree in management from Bentley University in the United States.

Commenting on the appointment, Hisham Alrayes, CEO and board member of GFH Bank, said Al Shamlan's experience in investments, asset management and real estate transactions, alongside her understanding of the bank's business and investment priorities, would support the project's growth plans.

Al Shamlan said she would focus on translating development opportunities into actionable plans, building partnerships and strengthening the project's hospitality offering. She also highlighted the importance of integrating its residential, commercial, service and leisure components to enhance the experience for residents and visitors.

Tunis Bay spans 523 hectares in Kalaat El Andalous, north of the Tunisian capital. Owned by GFH Bank, the development's masterplan includes residential, commercial, tourism, leisure, business, education and healthcare facilities.

The project aims to create investment opportunities, attract tourism and contribute to Tunisia's economic development.

GFH Bank operates across wealth and investment management, credit and financing, and treasury and proprietary investments. The bank has approximately US$25 billion in assets and funds under management, with investments primarily focused on the Gulf Cooperation Council region, the United States and Europe.
