Kuwait dissolves six civil associations over compliance violations

Kuwait’s Ministry of Social Affairs has dissolved six civil associations following a review of their compliance with laws, regulations and bylaws governing civil society organisations.

Minister of Social Affairs, Family and Childhood Affairs Dr Amthal Al-Huwailah issued the decisions as part of the ministry’s ongoing assessment of public benefit associations and their financial and administrative practices.

The decisions also suspend the boards of directors and employees of the affected associations from disposing of their funds and documents. The Ministry of Social Affairs will oversee the liquidation process directly, in accordance with applicable laws.

The ministry said the measures form part of its efforts to strengthen oversight of civil associations and ensure that organisations operate within the regulatory framework governing their activities.

It added that monitoring and evaluation of civil associations would continue to ensure compliance with applicable legislation, regulations and internal bylaws.

The latest action underscores Kuwait’s focus on strengthening governance and accountability across civil society organisations, particularly in relation to their financial and administrative operations.

The ministry did not provide further details on the identities of the six associations or the specific compliance issues that led to their dissolution.
