Bank Nizwa appoints Tariq Atiq as CEO

Oman-based Islamic lender Bank Nizwa has appointed Tariq Atiq as its Chief Executive Officer with immediate effect, marking a new leadership transition at the bank.

In a statement, the bank said, “‏​We look forward with confidence to the next chapter under the leadership of Mr. Tariq Atiq, wishing him every success in driving the bank’s strategic vision and future aspirations.”

Atiq had been serving as Acting CEO following the departure of former chief executive Khalid Jamal Al Kayed in April 2026.

Commenting on his appointment, Atiq thanked the Board of Directors and the Central Bank of Oman for their trust stating, “I am pleased to share with you today my appointment as Chief Executive Officer of Bank Nizwa, I would like to extend my sincere appreciation and gratitude to the Board of Directors and Central Bank of Oman for their valued trust, which I deeply appreciate and consider a strong motivation to continue working with full commitment and responsibility. 

With this new responsibility, I look forward to continuing to build on these foundations, further enhancing the bank’s leadership in the Islamic banking sector, and delivering more innovative banking solutions that meet our customers’ aspirations and align with evolving market developments. We will continue to work in a team spirit to achieve sustainable growth and enhance value for all stakeholders.”

Atiq joined Bank Nizwa in December 2025 as Deputy CEO and Chief Operations Officer, and brings more than a decade of banking leadership experience and has previously held senior roles at National Bank of Oman and Bank Muscat.

He holds a Business Administration degree from Arkansas State University, an Executive MBA from HEC Paris, and has completed the General Management Programme at Harvard Business School.
