Bank Nizwa appoints Tariq Atiq as Acting CEO following Khalid Al Kayed’s exit

Atiq joined Bank Nizwa in December 2025 as Deputy CEO and Chief Operations Officer, working closely with Al Kayed to ensure a smooth transition of leadership responsibilities.

Oman-based Islamic lender Bank Nizwa has appointed Tariq Atiq as Acting Chief Executive Officer following the recent exit of Khalid Jamal Al Kayed.


Announcing the leadership change, the bank said, “Ambitious leadership for wider horizons. We welcome Tariq Atiq as Acting CEO to continue our journey of excellence together.”


Atiq said he was honoured to take on the role and lead the bank into its next phase of growth. “I am deeply honored to announce my appointment as the Acting CEO of Bank Nizwa. Having been part of this sector, I am excited to lead our talented team at Bank Nizwa as we continue to redefine the landscape of Islamic banking in the Sultanate,” he said.


He added that the bank will continue contributing to Oman’s socio-economic goals under Vision 2040 and focus on innovation, customer experience, and sustainability. “Our focus remains steadfast: contributing meaningfully to Oman’s socio-economic goals under Vision 2040, continuing the development of the Islamic finance industry in Oman and driving innovation by fulfilling the evolving needs of our customers and enhancing their banking experience,” Atiq said.


The bank also thanked the outgoing CEO, stating, “With sincere appreciation, we thank Khalid Al Kayed for his exceptional leadership and dedication during his journey at Bank Nizwa. Wishing him continued success in his next chapter.”


Atiq joined Bank Nizwa in December 2025 as Deputy CEO and Chief Operations Officer, working closely with Al Kayed to ensure a smooth transition of leadership responsibilities.


He brings over a decade of leadership experience in the banking sector and previously held senior roles at National Bank of Oman and Bank Muscat. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Arkansas State University, an Executive MBA from HEC Paris, and has completed the General Management Programme at Harvard Business School.
