Khalid AlGhamdi takes over as CEO of Saudi Electricity Company

AlGhamdi was named Acting CEO a year ago, following the resignation of Eng. Khalid bin Hamad Al-Gnoon.
Saudi Electricity Company has appointed Eng. Khalid bin Salem AlGhamdi as the new Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately.

“The Board of Directors of the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) has announced the appointment of Eng. Khalid bin Salem AlGhamdi as the company’s Chief Executive Officer, effective October 1, 2025,” the company said in its announcement.
AlGhamdi, who has been with the company since 2022, brings over two decades of leadership experience. He initially joined as Chief Engineer and later transitioned into key roles, including Senior Vice President – Digital & Technology and Executive Vice President of Technical Services.

The company added: “He has held several senior leadership positions at SEC, including Executive Vice President for Technical Services, Acting Vice President of Risk and Compliance, Chief Engineer, and Senior Vice President for Digital and Technology. This appointment underscores confidence in national expertise and highlights the critical role of the electricity sector as a key enabler of Saudi Arabia’s economic and social development, and as a cornerstone of Vision 2030.”
Expressing deep pride and gratitude to the Saudi leadership: Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Eng. AlGhamdi said, “May God protect them for their unwavering support of SEC, which has enabled the company to achieve major milestones and strengthen its role in driving national development.”
He also expressed appreciation for the leadership of His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Minister of Energy, for SEC's success, and for the company’s Board of Directors for their trust and support, affirming that this confidence will be a driving force to continue meeting the expectations of customers and shareholders.
He added, “Together with my colleagues at SEC, I look forward to a new chapter of collective effort, building on the company’s past achievements across all fronts. With the grace of God, we will continue to meet the expectations of more than 11 million customers across the Kingdom by providing reliable and high-quality electricity services. Our focus will be on further enhancing grid reliability and increasing the company’s contribution to the ambitious objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 – reinforcing SEC’s position as a leading national utility and a key player in the global energy landscape.”

Before joining SEC, AlGhamdi worked with Saudi Aramco as Digital Strategy, Investments and Growth Manager, as well as with Honeywell and STC in senior roles.
On the academic front, he completed an executive leadership program at Harvard Business School Executive Education, earned a Master’s in Information Systems from Phoenix College, and holds a BSc in Systems Engineering from King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals.
