Go Telecom joins the growing list of Middle East organizations implementing shorter workweeks to enhance workforce wellbeing while boosting talent attraction and retention.

Saudi Arabia’s leading telecommunications company, GO Telecom has announced a shorter workweek, with 4.5 days, i.e., 36 hours across the company.

The company stated, “Driven by our commitment to employee well-being and promoting work-life balance, we have introduced a new 4.5-day workweek. This step reinforces our belief that rest inspires creativity and productivity.”

This move is part of a broader set of initiatives aimed at strengthening employee well-being, growth, and engagement.

Murtadha Alqatan, Senior HR Manager who recently joined the company, commented, “Today, our CEO, Mr. Yahya Saleh Al Mansour, announced a bold initiative: moving to a 4.5-day workweek (36 hours, with Thursdays as a half-day). This initiative comes alongside several others, all designed to strengthen employee well-being and growth.”

“But this step isn’t just about shorter hours. It’s about investing in people and showing that leadership truly cares. By giving employees more time with their families and communities, Go Telecom is creating space for recovery, focus, and balance, the foundations of both happiness and performance. A workplace where people thrive is a workplace where business thrives,” he shared.

Go Telecom’s workforce welcomed the news, highlighting that a shorter workweek and longer weekend will boost productivity, support a healthier work-life balance, and keep them motivated. They echoed that this initiative makes them feel rested and valued, inspiring them to deliver higher-quality work, which in turn drives greater engagement and stronger performance.

A shorter workweek move definitely sets a strong example in the telecom sector, showing that empowering people fuels flexibility, sustainable success and innovation.

A 4.5 or 4-day workweek also shows psychological benefits for employees, as they get time not only for self-care and family but also for self-development, allowing them to invest time in skill enhancement. However, companies need to adopt a systematic approach, as employees’ workload remains the same but is compressed into a shorter week, which could actually increase pressure. Therefore, this approach is not simply ‘an extra day off or longer weekend’ but an opportunity to rethink work processes and organization.

With this initiative, Go Telecom joins the growing list of Middle East organizations implementing shorter workweeks to enhance workforce wellbeing while boosting talent attraction and retention.
