Employers are required to verify and update employees' data and wages on a monthly basis to avoid any glitches in contribution bill calculations.

Now employers across Oman can now verify and update the data of their expatriate workers through the newly launched SPF e-Portal, with effect from August 2024.

Announcing the significant step for the Sultanate of Oman’s journey towards seamless electronic governance, the Social Protection Fund (SPF) said, “In alignment with the government’s vision for digital transformation, the SPF e-Portal is designed to offer a user-friendly experience that ensures transparency and efficiency. Through this portal, employers can not only verify the details of their expatriate employees but also update wage information, ensuring that all records are accurate and up to date.”

“Employers are required to verify their workers' data through SPF's electronic portal. If any errors are found, they must be corrected in the specified systems. For instance, if workers in the private sector are not shown in SPF's e-portal, the employer must contact the Ministry of Labour to confirm that those contracts are registered. Non-governmental employers and government units directly connected to SPF must promptly update their workers' wages (both Omanis and expats) through the SPF portal whenever changes occur. For government units linked via the Mawred and Rio systems, wage updates should be made through those systems. SPF will calculate the contribution bill at the end of each month based on the workers' data and wages available on the portal, making it essential for employers to verify this data monthly.” SPF added in the guideline.

Omani employers have been urged to familiarise themselves with the functionalities of the SPF e-Portal, as it will be central to managing worker data and handling monthly contributions. With the first invoice set to be issued on August 31, 2024, and the payment deadline on September 15, 2024, businesses are encouraged to act promptly to avoid any discrepancies or penalties.
