Bahrain extends Eid holiday by two extra days as weekend overlap ensures public sector employees receive full leave entitlement without losing days to regular weekends.

The Bahraini government has announced a series of measures aimed at supporting public sector employees ahead of Eid Al-Fitr, including an early salary disbursement and an extended holiday period.

According to an official circular, salaries for March 2026 will be paid in advance on Wednesday, March 18. Authorities said the move is intended to ease financial planning for employees ahead of the festive period.

His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, may God protect him, has directed that the salaries of all government sector employees and pensioners for March be paid in advance before Eid al-Fitr. He also instructed the relevant authorities to disburse them on Wednesday, March 18, 2026.”

To maintain a balanced payroll cycle, the government has also confirmed that April salaries for all public sector employees will be disbursed on Wednesday, April 22. “He further directed that the salaries of all government sector employees for April be paid on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, in order to reduce the time gap between the payment dates for March and April salaries following the early disbursement of the March salary.”

In a separate directive, the circular outlined the official Eid Al-Fitr holiday schedule for the year 1447 AH.

“On the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr 1447 AH, ministries, authorities, and public institutions in the Kingdom will be closed on the day of Eid and the two days following it. As Friday and Saturday fall within the holiday period, they will be compensated by extending the holiday by an additional two days.”

The move ensures that public sector employees receive their full holiday entitlement without overlap with the weekend, effectively extending the festive break.

The combined measures reflect a broader effort to support employee well-being and provide greater flexibility during one of the most significant holidays in the Islamic calendar.
