The Ministry of Labour Oman has issued Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) instructions requiring companies to implement strict safety measures during the current adverse weather conditions affecting the Sultanate.

The ministry stated that the directives are issued in accordance with the Executive Regulation for Occupational Safety and Health Measures No. (2008/286), and aim to protect workers, particularly those in outdoor worksites and construction environments, during unstable weather.

Under the guidelines, all outdoor work and work at heights must be suspended immediately when weather conditions deteriorate. The ministry also prohibited working on scaffolding and exposed surfaces during rain or strong winds due to the increased risk of falls and accidents.

Employers have been instructed to secure materials and equipment that could be blown away by strong winds and to clear roofs of unsecured tools. Companies must also designate safe routes for pedestrians and vehicles and restrict access to areas where water has accumulated.

The instructions further require securing excavations and trenches using appropriate covers or strong barriers with warning signs, and conducting inspections of scaffolding, ladders, and work platforms before operations resume after the weather improves.

Additionally, temporary power sources must be isolated and electrical cables and sockets protected from water exposure. Companies are also required to follow emergency procedures and immediately report any hazards or incidents to supervisors.
