UAE national part-time employees will be eligible for registration in the GPSSA pension system if they work between eight and 32 hours a week.

The General Pension and Social Security Authority (GPSSA) has extended pension coverage to UAE national employees working part-time in government and private sector entities under UAE federal pension laws.

The move is designed to reflect changing labour market conditions and support flexible working arrangements, including on-site, remote and hybrid work, while strengthening long-term financial and social security for UAE nationals.

Under the new framework, UAE national part-time employees will be eligible for registration in the GPSSA pension system if they work between eight and 32 hours a week, or between one and four days a week. This represents between 20% and 80% of full-time working hours.

The employee’s period of service and pension benefits will be calculated proportionately based on actual working hours and the approved contribution calculation salary applicable during each period of employment.

GPSSA said employers are responsible for registering UAE national part-time employees and updating their information on the Ma’ashi platform when an insured full-time employee moves to a part-time contract.

The authority said extending social security coverage across different employment arrangements will give insured individuals greater flexibility to balance professional responsibilities with personal commitments.

The framework is intended to support employees who opt for part-time work for reasons including personal commitments, continuing education or family care, while allowing them to maintain pension coverage.

GPSSA also confirmed that the framework preserves continuity of service when insured individuals move between full-time and part-time employment, supporting their long-term financial and social well-being.

The expansion of pension coverage comes as flexible working arrangements become increasingly important across the UAE labour market.

By extending social security protection to part-time national employees, the new framework seeks to align pension benefits with a wider range of employment models while supporting workforce participation and flexibility.
