Genetco appoints Eng. Wael Ahmed Al Lawati as CEO

Al Lawati succeeds Dr. Muthanna Al Durrah, who led Genetco for nearly 17 years and played a key role in driving company's growth and expansion.

Oman’s leading corporations – General Electric and Trading Company (Genetco) has appointed Eng. Wael Ahmed Al Lawati as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately.

Al Lawati’s appointment comes as Genetco continues to strengthen its portfolio, modernise operations, and expand strategic partnerships across its diverse businesses, which include consumer products, business solutions, engineering services, and facility management. 

“The board selected Al Lawati for his proven ability to lead complex organisations, build high-performing teams, and deliver sustainable growth in competitive and fast-evolving markets,” the company said in the announcement. 

Al Lawati brings over three decades of leadership experience across oil and gas, tourism, real estate, and investments sectors. He is well regarded within Oman’s business community for his collaborative leadership style and strategic clarity. His career includes senior leadership roles at OMRAN, The Wave Muscat (Al Mouj Muscat), Petroleum Development Oman, Majid Al Futtaim, DAMAC Properties, and most recently Muriya Tourism Development. His professional exposure spans more than 30 countries, and he is widely recognised for his contributions to developing Omani talent and fostering accountable, high-performance cultures. 

Welcoming Al Lawati to the leadership team, Murtadha Hassan Ali, Chairperson of the Board, said: “Eng. Al Lawati succeeds Dr. Muthanna Al Durrah, who led Genetco for nearly 17 years and played a key role in driving operational improvements, expanding core business lines, and strengthening the company’s market presence. The Board expressed its appreciation for his long-standing service and contributions, noting that a structured transition process is underway to ensure continuity across all business functions. 

Looking ahead, Genetco is focused on expanding its retail footprint, enhancing digital capabilities, and deepening brand partnerships across Oman. The company remains committed to supporting the national economy while delivering long-term value to customers and stakeholders across the Sultanate.
