Omantel appoints Samy Al Ghassani as Acting CEO; Talal Said Al Mamari exits

Al Ghassani succeeds CEO Talal Said Al Mamari, who recently stepped down from the role. Al Mamari posted, “After more than a decade leading Omantel, I bring this chapter to a close and step down as Chief Executive Officer. As I hand over to my colleague, Eng. Samy Al Ghassani, I do so with confidence that Omantel will continue to innovate, grow, and serve Oman with purpose. I conclude this chapter filled with pride in what we have accomplished together, and with lasting gratitude to everyone who made this journey a defining part of my life.” 

Holding over two decades of leadership experience, Al Ghassani most recently served as Omantel’s Chief Technology & Digital Officer. Previously, he held several leadership roles including Chief Operating Officer, VP – Integrated Technology Unit, and Head of Networks. 

Announcing the leadership transition, Omantel said, “In this context, the Board has assigned Eng. Samy bin Ahmed Al Ghassani, Chief Technology and Digitization Officer, to assume the duties of Chief Executive Officer of the company in addition to his current responsibilities, effective today, until the appointment of a new CEO. This ensures the continued success and progress of the company.” 

Sharing a profile of the Acting CEO, Omantel said, “Eng. Samy Ahmed Al Ghassani is the Chief Technology & Digital Officer of Omantel. He has been with Omantel and Oman Mobile for the past 17 years, with extensive management experience in telecommunications networks and information technology. He holds a Master’s degree in Computer Information Systems from the University of Detroit Mercy, U.S.A.” 

The company also extended its gratitude to the outgoing CEO, stating, “We thank Talal bin Said Al Mamari for over a decade of visionary leadership that shaped Omantel’s growth and impact. The Board has appointed Eng. Samy Al Ghassani as Acting CEO, ensuring continuity and progress.” 

Adding, “He has led the company through both challenging and opportune years. With his determination and wisdom, he strengthened domestic market share despite intense competition, drove growth in emerging sectors, diversified revenue streams, and spearheaded the transition from traditional services toward ICT-based solutions. What has been achieved during his tenure is a legacy we are proud of, embodying his dedication to serving both the company and the country.”
