Qatar announces remote work for up to 70% of workforce for all sectors

The remote work arrangement applies to all ministries, government entities, public bodies, and institutions. Priority for remote work will be given to mothers and persons with disabilities, provided operational requirements are not affected.
As authorities continue to monitor evolving regional developments, the State of Qatar has announced a series of precautionary measures, including the continuation of remote work for up to 70% of employees across most sectors. The move aims to ensure operational continuity while safeguarding employees and maintaining essential services.
In an official statement issued on 8 March by the Council of Ministers Secretariat General and the Civil Service and Government Development Bureau, government entities confirmed that no more than 30% of employees will report physically to their workplaces starting Monday, 9 March 2026, until further notice.

The remote work arrangement applies to all ministries, government entities, public bodies, and institutions. Priority for remote work will be given to mothers and persons with disabilities, provided operational requirements are not affected. However, the directive does not apply to employees in the military, security, or health sectors, as well as roles that require physical presence.
Financial institutions have also been instructed to adopt similar measures. According to the Qatar Central Bank, banks and financial organisations will continue implementing remote work for up to 70% of their workforce while identifying the 30% required to work on-site to ensure uninterrupted services.
Meanwhile, Qatar Airways announced that a limited number of flights will operate to and from Doha between 9 and 11 March following the partial reopening of air navigation routes through emergency corridors. The airline said the flights are intended to assist passengers whose travel plans were disrupted by the current regional situation, noting that these services do not represent a full resumption of scheduled operations.
Government services are also gradually reopening with modified hours. The Ministry of Justice confirmed that select customer service centres—including facilities in Al Hilal, Al Rayyan, and Rawdat Al Hamama—will operate from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm starting 9 March.
Digital platforms continue to play a key role in maintaining public services. Government entities have encouraged residents to access services through online portals such as Kawader, Mawared, Eskan, and the Dhareeba tax platform, ensuring transactions can be completed remotely.
Earlier, on 7 March, authorities also announced temporary adjustments to school hours for government schools between 8 and 12 March, while private institutions were given flexibility to adapt their schedules provided minimum teaching hours are maintained.
Tourism authorities are also providing support to affected visitors. Qatar Tourism said travellers unable to leave the country due to travel restrictions may be eligible for temporary hotel stay extensions.

The coordinated measures reflect the government’s effort to maintain stability, safeguard residents, and ensure continuity of essential services as it closely tracks developments in the region.
