Dubai launches ‘Work from Park’ initiative for freelancers and startups, promoting flexible and sustainable workspaces

By introducing flexible, modular workstations integrated into natural surroundings, the city is attempting to redefine how, and where, work happens.
Dubai Municipality has unveiled the “Work from Park” initiative, an ambitious move aimed at blending productivity with nature.
Announced on April 19, the programme seeks to transform public parks into tech-enabled environments where work, leisure, and community life coexist.
At its core, the initiative repositions parks as more than just recreational spaces. By introducing flexible, modular workstations integrated into natural surroundings, the city is attempting to redefine how, and where, work happens.
Officials say the concept is designed with a wide audience in mind, from entrepreneurs and freelancers to small businesses and remote workers, reflecting the steady rise of flexible work models globally. The workspaces will be built to high sustainability standards, aligning with Dubai’s broader push toward environmentally conscious urban development.
The first such space is scheduled to open in May 2026 at Al Barsha Pond Park, setting the stage for a broader rollout across multiple locations in the emirate.
Beyond convenience, the initiative also signals a strategic shift in city planning. It forms part of a larger vision to activate public spaces as multi-functional assets that enhance both economic productivity and quality of life.
The programme aligns with long-term frameworks such as the Dubai Urban Plan 2040 and the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, which prioritise innovation, livability, and sustainable growth.
As cities worldwide grapple with the future of work, Dubai’s latest experiment suggests that the office of tomorrow may not be a building at all, but a park bench under the shade of a tree.
