Qatar extends work-from-home arrangements for all govt. employees and private firms have to adopt remote work where possible, until further notice.

Qatar has further extended remote working arrangements, effective March 3, 2026, until further notice.

The measure applies to all government employees, while private-sector firms have been advised to adopt similar arrangements, citing regional developments and the need to safeguard public safety while ensuring business continuity.

"Extension of remote work is effective tomorrow, Tuesday, 3 March, until further notice, for employees across ministries, government entities, public bodies, and institutions, excluding employees in the military and security sectors, the health sector, and those whose duties require physical presence at the workplace," the Qatar Council of Ministers said on Tuesday.

Earlier, the Council of Ministers Secretariat General had announced an extension starting Monday, March 2, applying to all ministries, government bodies, and public institutions following an initial announcement on March 1.

The directive excludes personnel in the military, security, and health sectors, as well as employees whose roles require them to be physically present. Authorities noted that each entity will continue to assess operational needs in line with public interest.

Officials urged citizens and residents to rely on official sources for updates and to follow safety and security guidance issued by relevant authorities.

Remote work for government entities was first introduced on March 1, 2026, when authorities directed ministries and public bodies to adopt work-from-home arrangements for most employees, with sector-based exemptions.

Separately, the Ministry of Labour, in coordination with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, recommended extending remote working arrangements to the private sector.

"In light of current circumstances and in line with our ongoing commitment to safeguard public wellbeing and ensure smooth business operations, all private-sector entities, wherever the nature of the work allows, should implement remote working arrangements," the ministry said.

Businesses whose operations require on-site presence are exempt, provided all approved health and safety measures are strictly observed to protect employees.

Exemptions also apply to retail and service operations involving direct engagement with the public, including shops, consumer cooperatives and restaurants, to ensure uninterrupted supply of essential goods and services.

Authorities reaffirmed that protecting the wellbeing of society remains the state’s highest priority, while commending employers and employees for their cooperation in sustaining labour market stability and maintaining critical services.

Further updates on the remote work extension are available via the ministries’ official handles and government media channels.
