FANR elevates Awadh AlMur to Chief AI Officer role

In his new role, Awadh brings a wealth of experience in HR leadership, information security, and AI and machine learning, to develop AI governance mechanisms and raise awareness at FANR.

The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR), the national regulatory authority in the UAE, has announced the promotion of Awadh AlMur to the position of Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer, effective immediately.

In its announcement, the regulatory authority stated: "FANR's Director of Human Resources, Awadh AlMur, has been appointed as Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer following an extensive assessment and approval by the UAE Prime Minister's Office. As Chief AI Officer, AlMur will be responsible for developing governance mechanisms and plans to implement AI solutions at FANR to enhance regulatory decision-making, raise awareness about AI, and build capacity among FANR staff."

Expressing his enthusiasm, Awadh said, "I am honoured and excited to step into the role of Chief AI Officer at FANR. I am grateful to the management for their trust and support. AI is not just about technology; it's about empowering people, optimising our work, and creating a safer, smarter future. I look forward to collaborating with my incredible team and all stakeholders to unlock the full potential of AI for FANR. Let's make a difference together!"

Awadh has served the regulatory authority in key roles, including his most recent position as Chief Happiness Officer and Director of HR since 2016. He previously held the roles of Chief Information Security Officer and Manager of Internal & Regulatory Support Security. With over 17 years of experience, Awadh's career prior to joining FANR includes working with the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research as Director of the Security Department and Acting Deputy Director General for Financial and Administrative Affairs. He also served as Head of Administration Applications for the Department of Law and Police Applications at Dubai Police for over seven years.

On the academic front, Awadh holds a bachelor's degree in law from Dubai Police Academy and a master's degree in law from the University of Sharjah. He has earned several certifications and licences, including in executive leadership, chief information security, crisis management, and disaster recovery. His core competencies include AI, machine learning, workforce planning, training and development, leadership development, strategic leadership, HR strategy, compensation and benefits, HR transformation, performance management, employee engagement, data and information security management, and labour and employment laws.
