Chemanol appoints Acting CEO after Sabri Al-Ghamdi steps down
Methanol Chemicals Company, widely known as Chemanol, has announced key leadership changes, as Sabri Al-Ghamdi, the Chief Executive Officer, has stepped down from the role.
The company announced: “Methanol Chemicals Company (Chemanol) announces the employment contract of its CEO, Eng. Sabri Abdullah Al-Ghamdi, has been terminated, effective Thursday, May 15, 2025.”
While the company has not appointed a permanent successor to the outgoing CEO Sabri, it has appointed Fares Al Abbad as the Acting CEO for the interim period. “Engineer Fares Ahmed Al-Abbad, who currently holds the position of Vice President of Manufacturing, has been assigned the duties of Acting Chief Executive Officer until the new CEO officially assumes the position, which is expected to take place in July, God willing. Any updates will be announced in due course,” the announcement added.
With the changes, Sabri’s membership on the Board of Directors of Chemanol also changes to a non-executive role.
The company also clarified the reason for Sabri’s resignation, which is ‘termination of his contract owing to personal reasons’: “Reasons for Resignation: Termination of employment contract on personal grounds. The CEO's employment contract will be terminated effective May 29, 2025.”
The acting CEO, Fares, brings over two decades of leadership experience to his new role. Before joining Chemanol in 2024, he served SABIC and its affiliate company, Petrokemya, in key roles.
Sharing a brief about him, the company stated: “Throughout his career, he advanced in the fields of operations and process engineering, starting as a production engineer and eventually reaching the position of Senior Manager. He was also part of the team involved in oil-to-petrochemical conversion projects. Additionally, he holds two patents in the same field.
He has attended dozens of training courses in the petrochemical industry as well as in management and leadership, both inside and outside the Kingdom.”
